We sadly announce the passing of Ginger Withers. Ginger was born June 29, 1930, in Jamestown, North Dakota, and passed away in Lakeview, Oregon on May 21, 2021. A lifetime well-lived by this wonderful lady.
Robert and Frances Maddock were farmers in Maddock, North Dakota (Yes, the family established and named a town) who chose to follow other family members and relocate to Lakeview in 1935. They had 6 children, 3 of who we remember as Dottie, Happy, and Sonny preceded Ginger in passing. Living siblings are sister, Phyllis Borden, who raised an extended family in Las Vegas where she and her husband settled in 1957. A brother Donald and his wife May live in Bly.
The children all attended school on the West Side, in town and graduated from Lakeview High. While in high school, Ginger had only one boyfriend named Alan Withers, and even though he went to a college in St. Louis and she attended Oregon State College, they remained totally committed to each other. In 1950 he returned over Christmas, married Ginger and they were off to various locations in the US while Al flew for the US Air Force. This lasted for 4 years and then they returned to Oregon where they spent some years in aviation and ranching mostly for the ZX. They later returned permanently to the home ranch in 1967. Soon after, Ginger started working for the Forest Service in Paisley where she rose to Office Manager and retired after 26 years.
Ginger and Alan raised three boys. Michael, unfortunately, passed away at an early age, David is living in Klamath Falls and Daniel on the ranch in Summer Lake. The Grandchildren number 10 and there are numerous Great Grandchildren so far.
Ginger and Alan recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a goal that few reach. Their commitment to each other was total. She steadily guided her children and aided Alan through some difficult times. She knew the difference between right from wrong and was never hesitant in expressing her opinion. At the same time, she had a loving character and an excellent sense of humor which she often expressed in her somewhat muted voice. She was so very valuable in the operation and growth of Withers Ranch.
Ginger will be missed by so many people. Family, friends, and everyone she touched in her life. She will be forever in our hearts and minds.
A Memorial service is planned for Ginger on May 28, 2021, @ 11:00 A.M. at the Community Center in Paisley, OR, with a potluck to follow.
