Ruth Hampton Obituary

Ruth Elaine Hampton,94, peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by family on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021.

Elaine was born on July 16, 1927, at the Klamath Agency Indian Reservation to George and Daisy Turner. They lived in Klamath Falls on a timber claim homestead for 3-4 years before moving to Lakeview.

Elaine attended Southern Oregon College as an English major in Ashland before marrying her sweetheart, Verne "Lee" LeRoy Hampton on Feb. 14, 1947. In December of 1947 they welcomed their first child, Anita Lee followed by Joseph Lane in 1951 and Edward Merle in 1954. In addition to raising their own children, they also opened their home to foster children, Mary Zollner, Helen Guiliroy, Rosetta Carricaburu, Vicki Barry Brown, and more. Lee and Elaine made their home in Crane Creek just outside of Lakeview.

Elaine was very generous with her time and readily volunteered for many community and church activities. Elaine had many passions, her first being her faith and relationship with Jesus. Elaine loved Jesus and had a living faith that ran like threads of gold through even the smallest duties in life. She was faithful in the least, and because of this, she was faithful in much. She started off each day abiding in the Lord, through prayer and by reading the Word. She unwaveringly attended church, prayed at the altar, prayed with and for others, taught Sunday School lessons to children, and supported her church family. She was a true example of Christ's love lived out in daily life. She loved her family and friends deeply and was a strong positive role model for everyone who crossed her path. There was no end to her genuine positivity.

Elaine was a gifted writer and wrote several published books as well as publishing multiple articles in family magazines. She was an avid reader and had a wide array of books in her own personal library. Her favorite author was Charles Dickens. Elaine also loved a good game of Scrabble. Elaine will always be remembered for her love of gardening, bird watching, baking, sewing, and the childlike joy she showed each time she visited the Oregon coast. She will be deeply missed by all.

Elaine was preceded in death by: her husband, Lee Hampton; her parents, George and Daisy Turner; and her younger brother, Bud Turner.

Elaine is survived by: son, Joe Hampton of Lakeview; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Lanie Hampton of Red River, NM; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Ed Good of Medford; foster children, Mary Zollner of Salem, Helen Guiliroy of Roseburg, Rosetta Carricaburu of Battle Mountain, Nev. and Vickie Berry Brown of Brookings; grandchildren, Andrew Hampton, Janette Comas, Elana Donaghue, Ruth Quirós, Anna Potter, Heidi Valdez, James Hampton, Joshua Hampton, Brigitte Hamilton, Kristi Flores, Litti Bledsoe and Stefani Hass; and 22 great-grandchildren.
