Richard Melvin Cloud was born on April 12, 1946, in Lakeview Oregon. He went to grade school in New Pine Creek, CA, and then graduated from Modoc High in 1964. While in school he worked summers for the TL Lawson Logging Company. He then went on to Shasta Community College and got his Associates in Diesel Mechanics.
He married Vanessa L Pope in 1966 they had 3 girls Nicki, Stephanie, and Shelia. He continued working for TL Lawson Co. until moving his family to Klamath Falls in 1971 where he went to work for Leonard Putman Logging and then Newman & Crebbin Logging as a woods boss.
Richard and Vanessa divorced. He then married Sherry Harding in 1995, blending into his family 3 more children; Ted, Crystal, and Alex. In 1998 he and Sherry moved from Tulelake back home to New Pine Creek to help his parents run his family ranch until he passed it onto his oldest daughter in the fall of 2006. Richard went back to work for Lawson Logging until 2016. He then went to work driving for Dog Lake Construction until retiring in December 2020.
He loved hunting and fishing and shared this love with his children; teaching them how to hunt and fish and to love being in the woods. They all loved camping with family and friends. Richard was blessed with 19 Grandchildren and 20 Great-grandchildren. One of his sons served in the United States Army and two of his grandsons still serve in the United States Army along with one grandson serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Richard is survived by his wife Sherry. Daughters and son-in-law’s Nicki Alves (Donald), Stephanie Brown (Ralph), Crystal Howard (Danny). Daughter Sheila Cloud. Son’s Ted and Alex; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren along with his brothers Ray and Marvin Cloud. He was proceeded in death by his parents Carrol and Amy Cloud.
Richard will be greatly missed and forever loved.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Richard’s memory to the New Pine Creek Fire Department, PO Box 101, New Pine Creek, OR 97635, or to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family request that a tree could be planted in memory of Richard as well.
