Patsy Carlon Obituary

Patsy Irene Carlon of Summer Lake, Oregon passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2020, at the Lake District Hospital in Lakeview, Oregon with her two sons, Tom & Scott, by her side.  Patsy was born to Art & Addy Knopf on September 18th, 1928 in Portland, Oregon.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years George Carlon who passed in July of 2015, middle son Dan who passed in April 2020, her parents, and older sister Millie Knopf.  She is survived by her oldest son Tom of Summer Lake and youngest son Scott and his wife Nicole of Vancouver, Washington.  She also leaves behind many wonderful friends and Carlon relatives who loved her dearly and she them.

Patsy graduated from Parkrose High of Portland in 1945 and worked as a pathology lab technician at Portland Providence Hospital until 1947 when she started at Oregon State with a 4-H scholarship.  She met George on a blind date at OSU and neither one was too keen on going but George, using his ole' Lake County charm, swept this city gal off her feet.  This cattleman later "pinned" her (Theta Chi) by the hog barns, go figure.  George proposed to Patsy on top of Rocky Butte in Portland with its stunning views of the Columbia River Gorge and the city.  They were married on October 2nd, 1949 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Portland.

Patsy served on the Paisley School Board and for several years as the librarian of the Paisley Branch for Lake County Libraries. She established and operated the Summer Lake Christian Library for 20 years and helped establish the much-needed North Lake County Health Clinic in Christmas Valley.  She loved music and for many years taught piano to kids in Paisley and Summer Lake.  To better herself as a piano teacher she took lessons from Mrs. Sanderson in Lakeview.  In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s she was part of a trio that played for dances in the old Summer Lake Grange Hall.  Patsy on piano, Jim Snyder, and Joe Mayfield on guitar. They had the joint hoppin' !

Patsy loved being a rancher's wife and mother and loved the people of Lake County.  She was laid to rest in the Summer Lake cemetery next to her husband George and son Dan on December 21, 2020.  A memorial service for Patsy will be held at the Summer Lake Community Church on Friday, April 16th, at 1 pm.  Contributions to Patsy's memory can be made to the Silver Lake Disaster Unit, Box 96, Silver Lake, Oregon 97638, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
