Harry LeRoy Newmyer Jr. passed away on October 7, 2020, in Lakeview, OR. Harry was born in Del Norte, Colorado, to Harry and Edith (King) Newmyer on September 12, 1938. Harry was the oldest of eleven children. He was a lot of help to his mama with the younger children as time went by. He always loved being part of a large family.
A year or so after Harry graduated from high school he enlisted in the Army. After he left the Army, he got a job with the Forest Department. That is when he found out about Oregon and decided that’s where he wanted to live. It took him several years of traveling around from place to place, but he finally got his chance to make Oregon his final home.
Harry worked for a car dealership for many years as a detail man. Harry was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lakeview. He was a volunteer with the group of church members that ministered at the prison. He believed wholeheartedly in the program. He also took care of the church grounds for many years. Harry loved animals. He fed and watered many of the stray cats that were in his neighborhood.
Harry is survived by his 2 children, a daughter; Ronda Lowery of Hot Springs, AR, and a son; James Tucker of Newnan, GA, His sisters; Myrna Nicander of Grantville, GA, Edith Tucker pf Grantville, GA, Patricia Smith of Murray, KY, Ethel Vick of Thornton, CO, Judy Clements of Safford, AZ, Mary Nicander of El Verano, CA, Betty Jones of Clifton, CO, 1 Brother; Ray Newmyer of Hooper, CO, 2 granddaughters; Megan Ashbury and Alyssa Newmyer both of Hot Springs, AR. Harry had many nieces and nephews.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Wife; Rosaleta, and 1 sister; Constance Smith
There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date in the summer. Memorial contributions in Harry’s memory can be made to Oregon Outback Humane Society, PO Box 206, Lakeview, OR 97630.
