Gregg Baker Obituary

Gregg Lee Baker, 68, passed away August 21, 2021, in Mesa, Arizona, with his family by his side.

Born and raised in Reedsport, Oregon, Gregg loved sports and participated in swimming, football, basketball, and baseball.  He graduated from Reedsport High School in 1971.

Growing up in Reedsport, Gregg worked in his father’s saw shop where he learned how to maintain chain saws and fix small engines.  His father taught him how to hunt and fish which became lifelong passions.

In 1974, Gregg began his law enforcement career as a police officer in Jefferson, Oregon.  While in Jefferson, he met Karla Sarvis, and they were married on November 27, 1976.   In 1977, the couple moved to Lakeview, where Gregg joined the Town of Lakeview police force.  He worked as a police officer until he retired in 2002.  His familiarity with the people he served and ability to communicate made him an effective and respected police officer.

After he retired, Gregg worked as a private investigator and repaired small engines.  He loved his family, hunting, fishing, rafting, and golfing with numerous friends.

Gregg also loved the Lakeview community where he unselfishly gave of his time, talents, and energy.  He served on the Little League and Babe Ruth Boards of Directors.  Gregg also coached in both of these leagues, helping players improve their baseball and citizenship skills. He volunteered many hours to the middle and high school sports programs and the high school Booster Club.  Gregg was also very involved in the Lakeview Elks Lodge where he served on the board of directors in several positions.

Gregg was preceded in death by his parents Curtis Lee and Lora Lee Baker.

Gregg is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karla Baker; son Jason and daughter-in-law Patrice Baker, Crescent City, California; son Terry Baker, Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother Alan Baker, Coos Bay; sister Penny Peters of Eugene; nephews Jesse and Justin Peters; and grandchildren Trinity Enos, Brilynne Enos, and Mitchell Baker.
