He was born March 20, 1949, to Lorraine and Fran Bristol in Munson, Mass. He had four siblings, two brothers, and two sisters. He was married twice and met the love of his life, Janice, with whom he spent the rest of his life with. The family moved to California in the early seventies and lived there for two years before moving to their forever home in New Pine Creek.
Gary opened a transmission shop in Lakeview and was one of the most honest and hard-working mechanics you could ever have. He would drop everything just to help somebody. For 26 years he served the community. Everyone knew him from Reno to the West Coast to Bend. He was always cheaper than everyone else. Gary worked for free a lot of the time.
Gary was an avid fisherman and little league coach in Anza, Calif., and Lakeview. He loved to snowmobile, fish, camp and he was an avid horseback rider. He was a true trailblazer, loved to tell jokes a lot. His favorite music was Michael Martin Murphey's cowboy songs and he sang like Waylon Jennings. He believed in not stressing because it wouldn’t change anything. Gary Bristol was a one-of-a-kind workaholic that truly knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. Hopefully, you had the chance to eat the Brewster brownies, an old family recipe.
Gary fought long and hard to beat cancer and never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his battle, all of his doctors said he was a “tough old bird”. Thank you for all the joy you brought to this world.
Gary had two sons, a daughter, two step-sons, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
