Elsie Jannice George passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 12, 2020, in Christmas Valley, Oregon, at the age of 94 from natural causes.
Elsie was born, along with twin sister Edith in San Diego, California on April 12, 1926, to Lyle and Mary (Thompkins) Hertz. Elsie grew up with three sisters in southern and central California. She graduated from High School in Sacramento, Ca. She was a classic Rosie the Riveter working with her sister, Edith at McClellan Field, at the age of 16. Elsie met and married William Anthony George in Reno, Nevada on January 1, 1949, and lived a long life together until Bill’s passing in 2005. She and Bill spent most of their years in Alaska and Oregon until settling in Christmas Valley in 1976.
Elsie enjoyed Photography, gardening, and working with stained glass. Elsie was a dedicated mother, and never said a bad word about anyone.
Elsie is survived by her son, Terry (Lilli) George of Christmas Valley; grandson, Christopher George; two granddaughters, Kelly George and Ashley Giddings and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded by her parents, husband, and sisters, Edith, Hazel, and Betsy Ann, and her son, Bruce Neal George who died while on active duty in Korea during the Korean war.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment has taken place at the Silver Lake Cemetery, in Silver Lake, OR.
