Elizabeth "Betty" Rogers Obituary

Elizabeth Raudell Morris Rogers completed her Earth’s Journey on Thursday, October 22, 2020, in her home with her family by her side.

Betty was born to James Raymond Morris (Raymond) and Melissa Faye Mulkey Morris (Faye) on March 30, 1930, in Lakeview, Oregon.

Betty was raised in Valley Falls and Bull’s Prairie.  Her parents built the Hart Mountain Store and moved their family to the store where they made their home in the back of the Post Office, Store, and Tavern.  Betty attended the Plush school from second grade until eighth grade when she went to Sacred Heart Boarding Academy to finish her education.

Betty met the love of her life, Albert Steward Rogers, in Plush while he and his brothers were harvesting grain in the area.  Under the watchful eye of Tom Jones, the couple courted and were soon married on July 1, 1947, in Reno, Nevada.  They made their first home in Plush.  Unable to purchase land or grazing rights at that time.  The couple moved to the present homestead on Westside Road where they raised their 3 daughters and called home for 72 years.

Betty was a stay-at-home mom until her daughters were in school.  She was very active in community projects and “Mother’s club” for the Vernon School.  She worked for Leo Buck at his grocery store and as a “parts girl” for Albertson Tractor Company.  She worked at Coast to Coast until Bert surprised her by making a deal with Cash and Kate Rychard to buy Mode O’Day.  She was a natural and enjoyed the people and friends she met over the years until she retired.

Betty and Bert enjoyed 63 years together until his death on November 10, 2010.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents: Raymond & Faye Morris, husband; Albert "Bert" Rogers, brothers; Dallas Francis (Buzz) Morris and Billy Ray Morris, Grandparents; Laura Elizabeth Roush Mulkey Hotchkiss and William Hotchkiss and Thomas Mulkey and Daisey Overton.

She is survived by: 3 daughters and son-in-laws Nancy Rogers Thompson and Marvin, Kathie Rogers Leehmann, Mary Rogers Oakley and David Padget, Grandchildren; Jerrod Thompson (Amie), Marva Thompson Nolan (Chris), Casey Leehmann (Trish), Laura Oakley Lee (Mike), Cody Oakley; Greatgrandchildren; Brandon Thompson, Jenna Thompson, Jessi Nolan, Wyatt Nolan, Garrett Nolan, Cody Burns.

She will be missed by her many card-playing friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and her cat Pearl.
