Carmel was born June 15, 1933, to in Willows, California, and raised on a ranch. Carmel was fond of the outdoors, and at an early age, she taught herself to trick ride. She later attended UC Davis, earning a BA in Animal Husbandry, and was “Queen of Picnic Day.” Carmel also met her late husband, Denny Ellerman, while at Davis. Carmel later attended Chico State University and received her teaching credential.
Carmel taught school for over thirty years in the small ranch communities of Elk Creek, Stonyford, and Likely, California. Each summer beginning in 1971, Carmel and her late husband Denny traveled to rodeos with their children and cousins who performed as “The Flying Cossacks”, throughout the United States and Canada.
She was active in the local church in Lakeview, teaching Sunday school into her late eighties. Her favorite song was “It is well with my soul.”
She is survived by her sister Georgie, five children Mette, Tami, Fawn Troy, Jozell, and 15 grandchildren.
Her sweet spirit and warm soul will be missed by her loved ones, who all celebrate the fact that she is in heaven with Jesus and reunited with the love of her life.
Due to Covid related restrictions, a small private funeral service will be held with just her children. However, a celebration of Carmel’s life is planned for the summer or late fall of 2021.
