Obituary

Bridie Teresa DuBose, born in Lakeview, Oregon on October 31st, 1940 to Michael J. (Mike)

Guiney and Mary Ann (May) Guiney, who were Irish immigrants, passed away on May 10th, 2022.

Spending her childhood in Lakeview’s (then) thriving lumber- and agriculture-based economy, Bridie and her older sister Sheila (Hill) experienced their parents’ successes and challenges as they made their home in America and became part of its citizenry.

In August of 1958, Bridie married Lakeview native William H.(Bill) Odegaard who would make his way as a  logger and rancher. Together, they raised two sons--William J. Odegaard

(a teacher) and Kenneth A. Odegaard (a pastor). In 1981, however, Bridie and Bill divorced.

In 1984, Bridie married another Lakeview native, David Wayne DuBose (son of David William DuBose and Lillian Brekke DuBose). Dave was an electrician and asphalt plant operator. Bridie (having been a florist, a hospital ward clerk, and an accounting clerk) had become a small business owner, contracting traffic control services with heavy construction companies in the Willamette Valley where she and Dave made their home. Eventually, they purchased a home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, but they also counted Reno as home until they finally returned to Lakeview during their retirement years.

Following their return to Lakeview, Bridie found herself being named “Grand Leprechaun” (an appointment bestowed jointly upon her parents some years earlier) presiding over Lakeview’s annual Irish Days Parade and Festival.

In the earlier years of her marriage to Dave, the two (aka, “The Dancing DuBoses”) were often found hunting, skeet shooting, fishing, golfing, and, of course, dancing!

Bridie became a step-mother to Dave’s three children, Arthur DuBose of Portland, Troy DuBose (wife Laura) of Albany, and Shay DuBose of Texas. Later on, Bridie and Dave became grandparents many times over.  Following are Bridie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren from both of her marriages:

Jens Odegaard (wife Rosalie, children Nollie and Brimms), Eli Odegaard (wife Allison), Nathaniel Odegaard, Coren Odegaard; Daniel Odegaard (wife Alexandra) and Anne Odegaard;

Nathan DuBose, Kaitlyn Stiff (husband Donald, children Sutton and Brixtan); Troy David DuBose Jr. (wife Chastain, child David Dean DuBose), and Christine DuBose (children Trenton Pratt and Lillian Disney); Lauren Pierce (children Ryan and Henry) and Micah Wells.

Dave passed away in the summer of 2015.  In Bridie’s remaining years she struggled with Alzheimer’s. She lived this past year in a memory care facility in Eugene, Oregon near her eldest son, Bill, and her daughter-in-law, Gretchen Odegaard. During the many years leading up to memory care, she was lovingly cared for in Lakeview by her son Ken and her daughter-in-law Audrae Odegaard.

A memorial service will be held in Lakeview this summer. Details will be made available at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made in Bridie’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
