Bernadine Carol McLaughlin Obituary

August 26, 1934 – February 6, 2021

Bernadine Carol (Stampka) McLaughlin passed away in Lakeview, Oregon, on February 6, 2021, after a lengthy illness. Carol was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, on August 26, 1934, to Peter Paul Stampka, Jr. and Thelma Ruth (Flaherty) Stampka, where she was raised. In June 1957, the Stampka family moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where Carol spent the majority of her life. The last couple of years, Carol resided in Lakeview, Oregon, where her daughter Lisa lives. She will be remembered as a friendly, selfless, loving, and active lady who would not let anything hold her back.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband Shirley Waldron 'Mac' McLaughlin, her sister Marian Louise (Stampka) Hamilton, brother-in-law Howard Craig Hamilton, daughter-in-law Stephanie Jane (Carter) Fitzgerald, and her parents.

She is survived by her three sons: Scott, Jon, and Todd (Colleen) Fitzgerald; a daughter, Lisa (Derek) (McLaughlin) Herndon; six grandchildren: Tanner, Nick (Ashley), Kylie (AJ) LaBranche, Kati (Tyrell) Mead, Courtney, and Cheyeanne Fitzgerald; and four great-grandchildren: Bentley, Roczen, Ariana and Carter. Carol would not want to leave out the many four-legged family members she loved, that she referred to as her “grand-dogs”.

Carol was Executive Secretary to Kenneth and Allen Ford, Roseburg Forest Products, for 20 years and continued working with the Ford Family Foundation following her retirement. Retirement was busier than ever for Carol, keeping books for her son’s business, volunteering in daughter-in-law Colleen's classroom, organizing years of Box Tops for Education fundraisers, walking miles and miles every day, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carol also took the trip of a lifetime to hike Switzerland with a fun-loving group of ladies. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a doting grandmother. Her standard answer as to her health was always “not too bad for an older woman”.

Carol passed away peacefully with the love and support of her children, in the care of Lakeview Gardens and Lakeview Hospice, at 86 years of age. Her final care has been entrusted to Desert Rose Funeral Chapel. At Carol's request, no public service will be held.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association: www.alz.org.
