Lyle Edward Greenwood passed away peacefully at his home in Lakeview, Oregon on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Lyle was born on August 16, 1928, to Edward and Ruth (Krauss) Greenwood in Gypsum, Kansas.
Lyle left Kansas when he was just 8 years old. His family moved out west to Eagle, Idaho, and then to Culver, Oregon. Lyle graduated as the salutatorian of his high school class in Redmond, Oregon. After high school Lyle moved to Eagle Point, Oregon where he worked as a cattle rancher. In June of 1962, he moved to Crescent, Oregon and started working for the US Forest Service. He retired from the US Forest Service in 1985. After retirement he moved to Bly, Oregon and started driving fuel truck for May Slade for another 8 years. After driving fuel truck for Slade he became a relief driver, hauling milk from Bonanza Dairy to McMinnville Creamery. Lyle really enjoyed working and giving back. He was voted volunteer of the year at the Klamath/Lake County Senior Center in 2004. In 2005 he moved back to Lakeview, Oregon where he participated in the Oregon Hunters Association and for several years, he delivered the AgMag.
Lyle had a large family that he truly enjoyed spending time with. He also enjoyed hunting and gardening flowers.
Lyle is survived by his wife Linda, 4 daughters; Karen (Dave) Jordon, Gayle Greenwood, Laura (Kevin) Bertini, Diana VanCurler, 3 bonus daughters; Helena Hite, Jadene Kness, and Lue Juanda (Doug) Zavos, 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lorelei, sister; Patty, brothers; Nolan and Loren, one of his bonus daughters; Rhonda Vickerman, and 2 grandsons.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Lyle’s 100th birthday which was a milestone for him in August of 2028. Details will follow as that time nears.
